The herring is in relief in the center of the dish. Herring was and still is an important source of income for the Dutch fishery. Royal Delft has been making high-quality Delft Blue pottery since 1653.
Besides the worldfamous Delft Blue, the masterpainters at Royal Delft also create the multi-coloured polychrome collection. This decoration style is inspired by colour used in the Mediterranean and it is these colours that give the earthenware its typical character.
